“I thought if I did the right things, the right things would happen.”

Early in my career, the formula seemed pretty simple.

Work hard.
Be reliable.
Be a team player.

Do the right things, and the right things will happen.

So that's what I did.

I worked hard.

Sometimes too hard.

Dominique, founder of Esteem Mgmt, standing in a professional setting

I gave 110% because I believed my dedication would speak for itself. I was the one who arrived early, stayed late, and said 'yes' before I even knew the scope. I thought that by making myself indispensable, I was making myself secure. But in the corporate machine, I learned that value is often measured by what you produce, not who you are.

Hard work sometimes got me more work.

Being good at my job didn't mean everyone wanted to see me succeed.

A title didn't necessarily mean the person holding it knew how to lead.

And doing everything ‘right’ didn't guarantee the outcome I expected.

Working in HR, I saw the raw, unedited version of leadership. I saw what happened when people were pushed to their limits and when they finally broke. I realized that the systems we work within are just mirrors of the people who build them. The same things that drive us in our personal lives drive us in the boardroom:

Our confidence.

Our insecurities.

Our experiences.

Our need for validation.

Our fears.

Our ego.

And I wasn't exempt.

My career forced me to look at the power I had given other people over my decisions and my future. It made me examine my boundaries, my confidence, my voice, and eventually, what I actually wanted for myself.

I learned that I couldn't control every outcome.

But I could decide what I did with it.

I could speak up.

I could leave.

I could try again.

I could change direction.

I could learn from what happened without allowing it to decide what happened next.

You have more agency than you think.

Not because everything is within your control.
It isn't.
Life isn't that predictable.
People aren't that predictable.

But you can understand yourself well enough to make intentional choices when life doesn't go according to plan.

That's the space Esteem Mgmt was created for.

The space between what happened and what happens next.

Between who you've learned to be and who you're becoming.

As a career and leadership coach, I help people navigate the messy, non-linear reality of professional growth. I help you build the tools to manage your own agency, even when the environment around you feels unpredictable. We look at the gaps in your leadership, the whispers of your confidence, and the practical decisions that lead to a career that actually serves you.

That's the work we do here.
